The “Gotchas” of smart power
Here’s the thing: adding smart controls adds a bit of a headache when it comes to electricity. Infrared lamps are power-hungry. When they kick on, there’s a massive surge of current. If you’ve got three or four of these on one smart circuit, you’re probably going to trip your breaker. You’ve got to make sure your wiring and switches can handle that peak load. And for heaven’s sake, don’t cheap out on the relays. If they’re undersized, they’ll literally weld themselves shut after a few hundred uses, and then you’ve got a heater that won’t turn off.
